Railway information to the Highlands

First Scotrail operates a train service from Edinburgh and Glasgow to Fort William, with sleeper services from various cities in England. Once in Fort William, visitors can take a bus down to the Glencoe area or use a local taxi firm to get there. The Glencoe area is 15-25 miles from Fort William depending on exactly where you want to visit.

In the summer months a steam locomotive train operator provides a superb excursion from Fort William to Mallaig, with Scotrail's service operating concurrently with diesel Sprinter Trains.

The section of West Highland Line is considered to be one of the most scenic Railways of the World - the scenery along the line is STUNNING.

Fort William's railway station is a nice building with toilet and locker facilities, a bright and bustling waiting room/ticket office and newsagent koisk. There is also a good cafe in the building and an office supply business. Local taxis usually await the arrival of trains into town, but you can call one from our list of taxi services on this section of our site.
